A film contest people might be interested in [08 Aug 2007|11:15am]

[ mood | busy ]

Hi everyone,
Please don't delete this – it isn't spam. I'm just posting here because I thought it's something that would be of interest to the members of the group, since you're all fans of the genius that is Richard Linklater.

FairVote recently launched its Upgrade Democracy video contest, which asks participants to submit a short video to YouTube answering the question 'If you could change anything you wanted about elections, what would our democracy look like?'. First prize is $2000 and a trip to DC, and our panel of celebrity judges includes Richard Linklater, so it's certainly worth it.

If you want more information or want to register your interest, you can visit fairvoteorg's LJ profile, www.upgradedemocracy.com, or email upgradedemocracy@fairvote.org.

Thanks so much for reading and we hope to see some entries from you guys soon!

I don't think I have ever asked in this community... but why has subUrbia never been released to DVD? Does anyone have a clue? This is my co-favorite(I just can't get enough of Newton Boys Linklater movie... and I am the only person I know with a VCR. I am sick and tired of everyone gathering into my tiny bedroom to watch the movie.

So, the Oscar nominations were announced today. Imagine my shock upon glancing at Best Adapted Screenplay and seeing Before Sunset. Who knew the Academy had good taste?

Greetings Linklater fans. I've recently been grokking on "Dazed & Confused" quite a bit, and even made a much-needed fanpage for actor Shawn Andrews, whom we've seldom seen since that 11-year-old film.
"Waking Life" is terrific, and I can't wait to see "Slackers" for the first time.

But back to that Andrews kid. Does anyone know anything else about him? Aside from being hitched to Milla Jovovich, that is. After a small part in "City of Ghosts" in 2002, he seems to have slunked away into obscurity yet again...

synchronicity... [16 Sep 2004|10:13am]

how's this for meaningful coincidence?
a couple of months ago i found and bought the the double vinyl of the woodshock '85 fesival that is featured on disc two of the slacker dvd. it was so random to find it in erie, PA. i thought then it was cool to own a piece of austin history. i had no idea that lee and rick made a short film of it. i feel so lucky. the dvd is so amazing. slacker was the film that opened the door for me about how wonderful film can be. this dvd couldn't be any cooler.

Bad News Bears? [09 Sep 2004|04:04am]
Paramount has hired Richard to helm "The Bad News Bears" with Billy Bob Thornton starring.

The new version reteams Thornton with Bad Santa writers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. The project is a contemporary remake of Paramount's 1976 comedy, which starred Tatum O'Neal as the pitcher and Walter Matthau as the manager of a team of misfits in an ultra-competitive Little League.

Variety says the comedy is moving into 11 weeks of pre-production with filming expected to begin in late November for a 2005 release.

Hello, I just joined.
Was watching sundance and came across Before Sunrise. I must say that within 15 minutes of watching, I was already saying "i love this movie!" It's just so calm and original and REAL. Very beautifully done, I think. Anyway, my question was...and I'm really hoping someone might know, is who is that poem by, that is read to them by the stranger? I'm sure I don't need to explain, hopefully you know what I'm talking about? Well, I saw it flash by on the credits... I remembered it was called "delusional angel" but who is the author? I thought it was amazing and really wanted to read it again.

thanks if you can help! : )

before sunrise sequel [01 Dec 2003|04:25pm]
"richard linklater making sunrise sequel
(source: variety 17.08.2003)

castle rock entertainment and filmmaker richard linklater will reteam with ethan hawke and julie delpy this fall to make a followup to linklater's 1995 romance, before sunrise.

budgeted at less than $10 million, the untitled film will shoot this fall in paris. it's a likely candidate for release through warner bros. pictures' classics division.

in the original, young american jesse (hawke) and french student celine (delpy) meet on a train in europe. they take a side trip to vienna that lasts just one night, but the twentysomethings discover they have an intense connection. it comes to a bittersweet end when they part at the train station the next morning.

in the sequel, it's nine years later and jesse is on the french leg of the book tour for his novel when he finds celine once more.

before sunrise is my favourite film of linklater's so the prospect of a sequel is very exciting for me. what do others think?
